Hi basically my power supply blew, not sure why and where to go from this, I ordered a phantom 410 case with a 650w cooler master, help would be appreciated, hers my set up:
Gigabyte itx 970
970a-g46 msi mobo
Amb fx 8320 (with standard cpu cooler)
4 sticks of crucial 4gb ram
CiT Black Ops Black Midi Tower Case
http://m.cclonline.com/product/76302/BLACK-OPS/Cases/CiT-Black-Ops-Black-Interior-Mesh-Case/CAS0532/
500W Stock psu (there's no branding so it's nothing special)
There was a stock 80mm exhaust fan
added a cooler master 120mm intake fan

Basically I upgraded my gpu last week. I moved my case to allow for better air flow with it as I wouldn't want it over heating (it did when I was testing settings but I disregarded it), there's nothing to block airflow, yesterday I was on GTA V (this was on high-normal settings as my cpu isn't gunna like all that very high stuff), it was using about 50% cpu and 7.3-8.7gb of memory, it over heated, the psu was approx 50° the cpu a little cooler (I have an infrared thermometer so there's room for error) I carried on after letting it stand, opened it up make sure everything was all good. Carried on, it started hearing very fast, I dropped every setting turned off background apps, then the psu blew, I have no idea why, the air supply was good, however the psu was fitted at the top of the case so this had an impact for the rest of the computer. I don't want to blame the game as it was running fine for the past week, is it something I'm missing or the power supply just having enough?
Thank you :)

Your 970 was overheating? That shouldn't be happening in a normal environment. Had you adjusted the fan speed settings to accommodate for heavy loads? If your GPU was over heating and switching off regularly, it could have been a faulty card.

Anyway, as for your PSU; an unbranded power supply should NEVER be allowed to power a gaming system. It doesn't matter what case it came with, or who recommended it. No brand? No go.

The reason for this is that a PSU's components make a huge difference to its lifespan and overall quality. Cheap and nasty materials/components used in unbranded power supplies make them a liability, and at worst dangerous. They really are designed at running your average web surfing PC and nothing more.

Also, the wattage output they are supposed to have is usually way overstated. There are many examples of a '500watt' unbranded PSU actually delivering around 200-300.

So in conclusion, the PSU you were using probably did fail. I can only hope it didnt take your other components with it.
