Hi there, i am looking into purchasing a graphics card for my first gaming pc build here are the specs so far:

CPU: Intel Core i5 i5-4690K CPU (Quad Core 3.5GHz Processor, 6MB Cache, Intel HD 4600 Graphics, Socket H3 LGA-1150) I intend to overclock it to 4.4ghz.
CPU:Cooler Master Cooler Hyper 212 EVO (120mm).
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 PRO4 Motherboard (Intel Z97, USB 3.0, Socket 1150).
RAM: 8GB Hyper X Fury 1866mhz.
SSD: 120GB Samsung 850 evo.
HDD: 1TB Western Digital Blue.
PSU: Corsair CP-9020055-UK RM Series RM750 80 Plus Gold 750W ATX/EPS Fully Modular Power Supply Unit.

and now for the graphics card i am thinking either the
Asus AMD Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC Graphics Card (4GB, GDDR5, PCI Express 3.0)
http://
or the
Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Strix Graphics Card (4GB, GDDR5, PCI Express 3.0)
http://

So what would you recommend for the price/performance ratio which would be better for 1080p gaming on ultra with an easy 60+ frames.

Thanks in advance.
Jordan :).

At 1080p the gtx 970 almost always beats the r9 290 but not by much.Source The gtx 970 also suffers from gimped VRAM subsystem so if your graphics textures exceed 3.5 gb the card becomes extremely slow and cause stuttering. The gtx 970 is also more power efficient than the r9 290. The almost 80 pounds price premium of the gtx 970 is still hard to justify though.

Another suggestion is to wait for the r9 300 series card coming in June 2015. These promise to be more efficient and better performer and even if they fail to impress their introduction will lower gpu prices across the board for both nvidia and amd gpus.Source

A point of alarm though is your chosen PSU. Did you buy all the parts already??? If not then please cancel the corsair rm psu order and get at least a tier 2 preferably a tier 1 from this list. The psu is very important in a gaming pc and specially if your going to use a power hungry amd gpu.

This is a great tier 1 PSU
