Hello, I have recently tried to upgrade the graphics card in my Alienware x51 but didn't have much success with it. When I purchased my x51 back in November of 2013 the graphics card it came with was an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 645 but recently I've been noticing that less and less of the games that are being released are able to run the game with decent settings. I asked around and was told I should go for the GeForce GTX 960 as a good upgrade to the card.
I ordered the new card, took out the old GTX 645 and replaced it with the 960. As I was putting the card in I noticed that because of the smaller frame of the x51, the card wouldn't fit so I took it out and put the GTX 645 back in until I had a chance to purchase a new case. Everything was fine after having put the card back into the system until I tried to boot up a game and noticed that my frames had dropped from a solid 90fps down to around 10fps with the lowest settings. I updated my drivers but it didn't help the problem. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get my graphics card back to the state it was previously in I would really appreciate it! :) I apologize for this wall of text as I'm not very good at making forum posts :(
