Seagate Free Agent GoFlex 1 TB external hard drive I have had and been using for about 2 years on my laptop for BigFish game storage. Last night while downloading a game, it stopped working. I rebooted and the F drive was no where to be found and my laptop does not recognize the external hard drive. I tried different USB ports with no help. I tried Disc Management with and found nothing there to work with. The external hard drive just flicks consistently faster than usual and I'm wondering is there a way to see if the external hard drive has died, or how to get the F drive back? Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Hi there Ninee,

Is the drive recognized by Device Manager?
Even though you have tried connecting the drive to another USB port, I would say that you need to try connecting the drive with another USB cable as well.
If the issue persists, I would say that it may be a good idea to contact the manufacturer. In case the drive is still under warranty and you don't need the data stored on the drive, I guess you can RMA it.

In case you need the data though, your safest bet is to contact some data recovery company. Most of the HDD manufacturers provide data recovery services or have some sort of data recovery partners.
Some users take the drive out of the enclosure and connect it internally. In case your issue is enclosure related(but not the HDD itself), you may be able to access the data. Keep in mind that this will void the warranty.
