What is the difference between a Xeon E3-1231V3 and a Core i7-4770

I understand the lack of video on the Xenon but other then that and the $50+ difference between the two would the Xenon effect my normal computing?

I mainly use the PC for browsing, email, light gaming, audio encoding and some light video stuff.

I was thinking of pairing one or the other with:
G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 7-8-8-24
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97

Those two are a pretty close comparison, if you don't plan to use the integrated graphics of the i7 then the xeon would be the better choice. Save $50 and put it toward the gpu or other components. The ecc ram support of the xeon won't matter in normal desktop usage and needs an ecc supported motherboard along with ecc ram, both of which cost quite a bit more than the sabertooth and non ecc memory.
