I was considering putting my computer expertise to use and build gaming PCs and to hopefully make some dough. Keep in mind I'm only 17, and I have decent, but still limited knowledge on how the economy works. I also have enough money to make an initial investment.

*warning* lots of questions below, don't feel like you need to answer all of them in one post :D

Has anyone here ever attempted to build and sell PCs? If so, how easy is it to enter the computer market? I would plan to sell through ebay (good seller protection), and would there be any potential legal precautions I would need to take to safely sell PCs? Things like not being responsible for any damage caused after it is received, etc... Basically things to ensure I don't get sued :)

Also what price range PCs do I build? Is it smart to include peripherals like monitor, keyboard, mouse, MS office and things like that? I will keep updating if I come up with any more questions too.

Because we aren't talking about average consumer PCs (probably should've mentioned that :p). Walmart, Dell, HP, Best buy, etc... don't sell true gaming PCs (an intel i7 rig with a 16gb RAM doesn't count as a gaming PC). Alienware (Dell) builds great computers, they just have terrible bank for your buck.

And yes, I would plan to provide some technical assistance. Am I wrong to expect buyers who are buying a $500-$1000 gaming PC to have some knowledge about PCs though?

Hmm, the way you guys are making it sound is like I would be opening and maintaining my own business. Maybe I am approaching this wrong... Maybe rather than trying to be an online business, should I just be a guy who targets locals and friends? But I don't really like the idea of selling items like PCs on craigslist for legal reasons...
