I am considering an upgrade and currently have a FX6300 with 8gb of ram and a r9 280x

I am curious on how much of an performance boost would i get upgrading to a i5 4590? Mostly play a few mmo's and planning on getting gta v

I would say the fx-6300 is a great option im not a huge Intel person but, the FX-6300 is great for streaming and playing games as well as good at overclock as long as you get a good Mobo. I have the fx-8350 4.5 ghz and a gtx 980 and its great. The difference in games will be negligible. Its not worth paying the extra for the 4590, get a good cpu cooler (hyper 212 evo, corsair h80i).

No contest, the i5 wins every time, especially in GTA5, MMOs and strategy games:

I would like you to know that I have benchmarked a 3770k with my fx 8350 not just benchmarks I mean actually took real benchmarking data and the 3770k and fx 8350 get the exact same fps maybe a little less or a little more. sure starcraft, skyrim the single threaded optimized games are going to have higher fps, but whether you like it or not games are becoming more multi threaded as well. intel may have a better memory controller but that's usually only useful for video editing. Intel usually runs cooler idle but it does NOT run cooler on full load they just have a higher thermal limit opposed to AMD. both me and my frend have GTX 980s we BOTH had to overclock our gpus just a little. the games that bottlenecked my cpu were only unity, Advanced Warfare, and one other I don't recall. I take benchmarks with a grain off salt, almost all benchmarks are optimized tward Intel like it or not do the real testing without adjusting the numbers then I will believe you.
