How do I know the GTX 970 is compatible with my PC?

I currently have a GTX 750 ti and I want an upgrade!
How do I find out if this card will work with my pc or not?

All I know about my pc:
Windows 8.1
Intel i7 4790
GTX 750 ti
16 gig ram

Don't want to buy a card I cant use, so if anyone could help me figure out if its compatible or not would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

I did measure and it does fit if i rearrange some wires. But let's say it doesn't and I have to get the short one. Is there any difference between them?
I have spent the entire day researching my pc and it has 460w in the PSU. And I read somewhere on the DELL forum that a lot of people has installed the GTX 970 on their XPS 8700 pc (same as I have) and that they haven't had any problems.
