I am planning on building a computer for the first time.

Some parts that I plan on using are:

Definite

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card
SSD: Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Not set in stone

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler
PSU: SeaSonic 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

I plan on overclocking, but not past 4.0 GHz. I have no clue what kind of motherboard would go well with an i5-4690K and my GeForce GTX 970 (it's around 9.5'').

As for a CPU cooler, I was wondering if there was a better cooler (cheaper and enough for a 4.0 GHz overclock).

I am not sure about what kind of case would be a good fit for this as well. I am worried that the a Mid Tower case would not be big enough to hold everything.

Lastly, what kind of PSU should I get? I think that a 520-550W would be enough, I do not plan on SLI.

I would appreciate any help, thank you.

Hi, thank you very much for responding. I do have a few questions, some about the build and others general.

1. Will everything fit inside the Thermaltake Commander MS/I Snow Edition (White/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case with no problem?

2. Does the Memory change matter? Is this Memory better for this build or was it just something you prefer (performance and price)?

3. Will this build have any compatibility issues (in terms of ports and wires and stuff)?

4. I actually plan on reusing an old 1TB HDD as my main hard drive. Will this complicate anything?

Thank you for your build, I am highly considering your changes. I'm asking these questions so that I can see if I can change a few parts to make it a bit cheaper and to solidify my decision.

That build looks quite nice, but I was wondering:

1. Is there a cheaper motherboard that fits and also has a low failure rate?

2. Do I need 620W or can I settle for the 550W PSU? (I do not plan on SLI)

Thank you.

This seems like a brilliant setup for $1198. With your budget, I would most certainly go ahead with this one, I will not only perform incredibly, but it will look awesome on that case.

The MSI GTX970 increases the cost, but reviews are great, and it will match your black/red setup.

@ShadowR34per, if you have the time I would really like your advice on my current build: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2624095/build-1700-gaming-advice.html.

Good luck with your new PC!
