Hello,

I've tried putting together a new gaming pc, and I've got a nice list, but since I don't know too much about computers I don't know if some products are incompatible with eachother.
I put a cheaper CPU in, to keep the price low, but I don't know if I'm bottlenecking myself now.

Here's the list as it is right now:

MOBO:
ASUS Z97-PRO GAMER
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=1164706&kind=pcBuilder&className=mainboard
€ 147,90

CPU:
Intel® Core™ i5-4690
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=143408&kind=pcBuilder&className=cpufan
€ 247,90

GPU:
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=1128198&kind=pcBuilder&className=cpu
€ 619,00

PSU:
be quiet! Pure Power L8 700W
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=1085988&kind=pcBuilder&className=powerSupply
€ 94,90

SSD:
Samsung 850 EVO
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=1163757&kind=pcBuilder&className=harddiskSSD
€ 119,90

HDD:
Western Digital Red, 3 TB
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=1018540&kind=pcBuilder&className=harddiskSATA
€ 129,90

RAM:
Corsair 16 GB DDR3-1600 Kit
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=1083617&kind=pcBuilder&className=ram
€ 134,90

Case:
Aerocool XPredator X3
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=1014652&kind=pcBuilder&className=pccase
€ 99,90

CPU cooler:
Noctua NH-U9B SE2
https://www.alternate.nl/html/product/information/pageBuilder.html?articleId=143408&kind=pcBuilder&className=cpufan
€ 56,90

That totals €1651,2.
I'd like to spend the other €150 on extra peripherals, so I'd like to stay at this budget if possible.
So, what do you think? Is this a good solid build, or is it gonna fall apart as soon as I try to use it?
Did I miss any components? Or did I accidently make an awesome computer?
Thanks in advance :) !

Solution
No you don't. Good air cooler will hold same temperatures while being quieter.
That last build of yours is nice, but you can drop RAM to 8GB (don't buy anything higher than 1600MHz though; find some GSkill RipjawsX /Sniper or Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz CL8/CL9 RAM) and switch that cooler to something decent, because 4790k is hot. I suggest Cryorig R1 Ultimate, Noctua NH-D15 or be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3, whichever one you can find (be sure to check RAM compatibility with your cooler)

Not, by a long shot, an expert... (in fact I just opened a thread to ask about, basically the same thing)

Prices between alternate.nl and alternate.es seem to vary A LOT by the way! My build, as it is right now:

(186€) | MOBO: MSI Z97 Gaming 7
(236€) | CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5Ghz
(132€) | CPU Cooler: CORSAIR Cooling Hydro Series H110i GT
(136€) | RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR3-1600MHz Vengeance Pro Red
(400€) | GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming OC 4GB GDDR5
(170€) | PSU: Corsair AX860 860W 80 Plus Platinum
(135€) | CASE: Corsair Carbide Air 540
(247€) | SSD: SanDisk Extreme PRO SSD 480GB
(52€) | HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB SATA3
(15€) | DVD: Asus DRW-24F1ST
----------
(1709€)

Regarding your build, I would avoid that case. I have the Aerocool X-Predator X1 in my current build, and the construction quality seems poor to me. I don't like it, and will avoid Aerocool cases and PSU in the future. Any corsair case seems like a great option.

I would also avoid WD Red HDD, and choose the Blue one (RED are supposed to be for NAS, although take this with a grain of salt)

Also, I would certainly spend a few more euros for the Intel® Core™ i5-4690K (which will enable you to Overclock it, which by the way is quite simple if you don't expect awesome increases)

The rest seems nice, although I would save 200€ in the GPU (970 seems to be the best option for the money right now, and you can always upgrade in 2 years).

Good luck with your PC!!

First of all, both thanks for the suggestions.

So, do I really need the watercooling? It just seems much pricier than normal air coolers, and I don't really stress the CPU while playing games.

As for the CPU, I haven't really been sure what to take, the 4690 or the 4790k. I'll trust you in that then.

And do I need the 850W PSU? pcpartpicker ended at about 500W for this build, and I took 700W so I could put another GPU in later, but 850W, or am I being stupid?

As for the case: Thanks for warning me Julgzfz, I guess I'll go with the fractal case. Heard a lot of good about it.

And actually I'd prefer the 980, since the computer is mainly used for gaming. That's that I prefer a stronger GPU above other components.

MSI Z97 GAMING 7
197€

MSI Z97 GAMING 5
149€

^What's the actual difference?
Thanks for all the links btw, Elemential, makes it a lot easier.

I fiddled a bit with my build, and this is it now:

As I mentioned earlier in my post, there was some stuff I wasn't sure about so I left that as it was. It is of course all open for debate

Barely. I'll just get new peripherals in a month or so, kind of out of money after this.
Still have older stuff so I'll manage though. Thanks for all the help :)
