Hey everyone,
Just installed Skyrim to find that the fps are all over the place. My GPU usage is at about 30% and doesn't really get much higher than that. It usally sits at 60 but drops all the time whenever I look at certain things. What's going on?

Specs:
GTX 970 STRIX factory overclock
FX 6300 at stock 3.5 GHZ
8gb Kingston Hyperx 1600mhz Ram
500gb hard drive 7200 rpm
Asus M5A97 r.2

I am not 100% sure what your issue might be, but I am damn sure it's not your specs. Skyrim sure is a good-looking game, but nothing breathtaking, at least for me. I can play the game at almost max settings with a PC that has a much weaker GPU (GT220 1GB) and half your RAM at a lower frequency (4GB 1333MHz). The main difference is probably my CPU (i3 2100 3.1GHz), but overall yours is better I think.

First and foremost, Skyrim is a rather old game, especially as far as the engine goes. It only uses 2 cores and only uses 2GB of RAM at most. I can assure you your GPU is overkill for this game, thus you will most likely never see it used to its full power.

What I can help you with is to give you this link, where you will find some...
Its a game. That is how games work. When the game needs more pixels (objects) processed, the CPU and GPU both work harder. Skyrim has places where the load one your system is minimal. But come around a curve, and see groups of things ahead, and suddenly both your system slows down. Skyrim can also tax your CPU harder than many games do. But. thats why it looks so good.

What I can help you with is to give you this link, where you will find some useful tweaks: http://itcprosolutions.com/skyrimguides/tweak_guide.htm

You will find a detailed section there on how to enable the game to work better with multiple cores and many other useful things.
