My internet keeps dropping in and out and I call Windstream and they say just hard reset the modem (turn it off for 2 and a half minutes) and it should pull and IP address for me. I guess it changes my IP every time it goes out. I have mobile devices hooked up to the modem/router and they experience the same issues. Says we are connected but we get no internet. I have a Sagemcom Fast 1704 modem/router and I am running windows 7 premium edition. Why do these drops keep happening. The internet will work for 30 mins to an hour or so but eventually boom no service for 15 mins or maybe 2 mins you never know. Also on the routers home page I go to diagnostics and it shows Ping default gateway FAILED. Ping Domain Name Server FAILED. ate oem fast something failed lol please any help would be greatly appreciated.

also this is showing failed when it is not working. Test ATM OAM F5 segment ping: FAILED
Test ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping: FAILED

Those messages on the router mean it can not talk over the DSL connection to the ISP main office.

It is most likely a cabling issue either in your house or someplace in between.

There is a small chance the modem/router is defect but it is much more likely you have a cabling issue.

It depends on how friendly you ISP is. They can easily test and find where the problem is. The main issue is they generally charge you for coming to your house if the problem is found in you wires or equipment. I would check the best you can and then it may be worth the charge to get them to fix it rather than deal with crappy service. They will of fix it for no charge if it is something like a bad connection someplace out in the street.

I'm not so sure that it is a connection issue. Like I said I am able to access the internet at times. and sometimes it will not access it. As of right now it is working. But I had to hard reset it for it to work. I hope it will still be working by the time I get through with this message but who knows. I have been dealing with this for almost a week now. I was getting 11mbps and they came over friday 4-24-15 and claimed I was not in the 12 range and they dropped me down to 6. So I called a loyalty rep from windstream and they told me it would be 5 dollars extra a month for me to get 10mbps..... So i have to pay 5 dollars more to get where I was previously at? and now my internet is messing up? I am tempted to call them and tell them to take this router back to hell with them....... I am beyond pissed lol. I feel it is all there fault. Either way I want my 11mbps back I told the lady on the phone I would gladly pay 5 dollars extra to have it in working condition at 10mbps again.
