My computer switched itself off suddenly and now won't come back on.

When I plug the power cable into the PSU, I hear the electricity working and the USB devices DO work. However, the nothing else works (including the fan on the PSU itself).

Am not sure if it's a motherboard or PSU problem as some power is obviously going from the PSU, through the motherboard (?) and to the USB devices.

Solution
Hi ayahua,
sounds like PSU issue.. It may be faulty.. to check with it connect the PSU with any other pc and make conclude that it is mobo or psu issue..
All the best

Hi ayahua,
There are some possible reasons and solutions,
Reason 1) May be your Power cable connecting the psu may be damaged
Reason 2) Psu got damaged
But As you said it powers USB i thought Reason 1 because i got same issue in the shut down of pc often , finally the culprit is power cable..
Solution 1: Try to change the power cable..
Solution 2: Try to remove you CMOS battery (Most members did at the time when the computer shut down automatically, give it a try....)

check whether your mobo LED light on at the time of switching of psu...
Post back to help you..
Hope all will be fine soon..
