cant run gta 4 on r9 270x on high setting

My pc specs are- i5 3570 with intel mobo db5en
4 gb ram ddr3
500gb hdd
cooler master thunder 500w psu
amd r9 270x 2gb oc edition

i cant run gta 4 on high settings as it lags...
i run it on medium to high settings at 1490*900 with view distance settings (and similar) at 30-40.
the moment i select all high and increase view distance (similar) it lags..
help plz

Well there not much you can do except make sure your drivers/bios are up-to-date then adjust the settings to the point were the game looks decent but will retain a high enough FPS to make it playable, also shutting down any backround programs that you dont need running will help a bit. Or buy a newer gpu, you may need to get a better psu.

i did a bench mark run of gta 4 (inbuilt) on high settings.. it gave result of 57fps.. is it good? if yes then why game still lags on those settings????

Anything above 30FPS is playable. Typically the in-game benchmarks give you the avg FPS but does that one show the lowest FPS? It may be 57FPS avg but if it dips below 30 then theres your lag.

GTA IV just lags in general, you won't get a perfect 60 FPS out of the game no matter what hardware you have, it's just a really crappy port. You could probably benefit from more RAM, as GTA IV can eat up about 3 GB on its own if you set the -nomemrestrict flag on it.
