OK.. This is my first build, I am putting together the following:

AMD FX-8350
ASUS Sabertooth 990fx R2.0
G.Skill F3-1866C9D-16GXM (8GBX2)

when I install the memory as instructed by the mobo user manual, in slots A2 and B2 the mobo bios only shows 8GB but I I install them on slot A1, B1 the mobo bios shows all 16GB.

I have no idea what to do :??: any suggestions????

I did A1 B1 and had the same issue only shows 8GB.

when I only use one stick as follows:

B2 -- Mem LED stays up and BIOS doesnt start
B1 -- Mem LED stays up and BIOS doesnt start
A2 -- BIOS starts and shows 8GB (8175MB)
A1 -- BIOS starts and shows 8GB (8176MB)

Asus says that ram isnt supported for that motherbd but G.Skills site says it is. I still think its the motherbd. Do you have another stick of ram to try with (be sure to turn off any system you pull ram from first)

edit- you may want to try using 1 stick of ram and see which bios version you have, make sure its the latest

Do you have a third party CPU cooler, if so try loosening and then snuging it back down, if it's too tight in a corner or side it can throw off your MC (memory controller) and you might not see a channel (here the B channel). Might also try raising the CPU/NB voltage to 1.25 (that's your MC voltage), if neither works, I'd guess possibly a bent or broken pin on the CPU

I do not have more memory to test with, but i'll ask my friends to see if someone has a compatible memory to test it.

I also wanted to add that when I go into the BIOS it does show that there is a second stick installed but the total memory is still 8GB. I reseated the CPU and that did not fix it.

should I try it with the CPU cooler loose?

Using the Memory Configurator at G.Skill here, for the Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard, memory part number F3-1866C9D-16GXM is not shown on the list of compatible memory for the Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard. That suggests this memory part is incompatible. However, not necessarily all memory combinations have as yet been tested with the motherboard, so this memory might be compatible anyway.

Given that there are some difficulties in running this memory, suggests some issue somewhere (compatibility, or not).

Remove the CPU and thoroughly check the CPU and its socket for damaged or missing pins and pads. Reassemble the CPU and its cooler carefully and evenly.

I am going to check the CPU again. I hope this memory works with this mobo and CPU, because the memory was bought back in January and I just had all the pieces and the time to put everything together last weekend and I do not think G.skill will replace it with another model... :/

I have been researching and found a couple of post where people had the same set up working:

this gives me hope, I am glad I got the board through amazon prime less than a month ago, I submitted the RMA request last night and the new mobo is already in the mail ETA tomorrow. I hope it is the board because I got the CPU from SuperBiiz on march and I would have to go through AMD RMA process.

One quick question, I noticed that there is a little of thermal paste on the sides of the CPU (I guess from the removing and putting back) do you guys think that would interfere or might cause this issue?

I will keep you posted...

I do not think it did, but I will double check as soon as I get back to it, if it did what would be the best way to clean it?

OMG!!! while getting everything ready to clean the thermal paste I realized that one pin in the corner of the CPU was bent!!!

I used a pair of small surgical scissors and straighten it up, I was afraid it was going to break but it didn't, I placed it back in the mobo and it recognized the 16GB!!!

I am receiving the replacement mobo tomorrow, amazon is fast!! I guess I w2ill return it since everything looks good.

The only question I have is if I should keep this CPU or return it just to be safe???
