The laptop is a sony vaio E series VPCEA36FA
It's got an intel i5-560M @2.66 Ghz with turbo boost @3.31ghz
OS is windows 7 home premium
It's got 4 Gb of RAM
Now the video card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
I render only still v-ray based images with sketchup and mental ray based autocad still images
Autocad lags with 3d and well.. Can this get faster?
Thanks in advance guys
Regards

hasson94,

I agree with velo3100 and X79 that a laptop- and one so many generations past is a poor candidate for upgrading to suit your uses. Applications such as 3D modeling and rendering need a good clock speed, amount of RAM and in my view, a large monitor. I use AutoCad, 3Ds, Sketchup /VRay, Solidworks and and Adobe CS with two 27" , 250 X...

You don't upgrade laptops. Buy a new one or buy a tower.

The cost, effort and time associated with trying to upgrade a laptop means it's not worth it 9/10 times.

For those same resources, you could get a better deal with a new setup altogether.

I must say though, for 3D modelling, that looks like a very insufficient setup. So I'm not surprised if it's slow.

If you can muster a budget, we can provide advice on a new setup.

thanks for that fast response
I'd be so glad if u could give me new build
i don't play games
i just work 3ds max autocad sketchup...
Be my guest!
budget is whatever is required to get a slightly overkill long term upgradable tower

The gpu of your laptop is very weak for 3d modelling. For autodesk, you need a quadrino card for the best results but geforce cards will work as well.
Now depending on the level on the models you render, the minimum you need is a gt 650m as I have a laptop that uses this gpu. But this is only for people that are just learning how to model and render. If you are professional then get a portable workstation which has the quadrino card I am talking about. Something like the quadrino k4100m should be good for fairly decent modelling and rendering results.

hasson94,

I agree with velo3100 and X79 that a laptop- and one so many generations past is a poor candidate for upgrading to suit your uses. Applications such as 3D modeling and rendering need a good clock speed, amount of RAM and in my view, a large monitor. I use AutoCad, 3Ds, Sketchup /VRay, Solidworks and and Adobe CS with two 27" , 250 X 1440 monitors and I find working much easier and faster without so much zooming, switching between programmes, having to move around menus, and resizing vieports.

The best approach today is to use LGA2011-3 as the bandwidth is much wider than LGA1150, there are more PCIe lanes, and you can use Xeons of up to 18 cores to reduce rendering times. I also like to use Quadro GPUs with Autodesk and Adobe programmes as they're OpenGL and CUDA accelerated.

Here are a couple of slightly generic system ideas with a range of cost:

Of course, it's possible to spend an unlimited amount on a system, but I feel that these systems have a strong specification at a reasonable cost. The Xeon E5-1650 v3 has about the best cost /performance ratio for a workstation CPU as does the Quadro K2200 for GPU's.

The monitors are very important in this kind of work and I would encourage you to see them in person if possible and consider a 27or 28" single or at least dual 24" and if possible at 2560 X1440 on DisplayPort.

Cheers,

BambiBoom
