Hello, so I bought a new pc and they said I had to install windows... They gave me a cd and eveything but I booted the pc and it probably installed the windows 8.1 the review or something (Don't know how to call it). So the problem is, I'm trying to install the genuine windows 8.1 from a disc but it asks for a product key and I can't find it anywhere on the package! Please help me.. Thanks a lot!

P.S. Also sorry if it's a stupid question, I don't know a lot about computers.

My first reaction is: You got robbed. Where did you buy this?

Windows 8 changed the licensing model. Prebuilt PCs from major builders have the license key someone on the motherboard, and the installation process will see it and use it. Nice and simple. With that setup, it should not prompt for a key.

Look on the machine for a sticker with an activation code. If that don't work, contact the seller. It sounds awfully fishy to me.

Then again, I once bought a notebook where I did have to install the OS. It was a floor model and the display driver wasn't working well. It needed to be re-OSed. Since I intended to install a higher version of Windows anyway, I bought it cheap and applied an upgrade installation...

If the store did not install the OS, there will be no sticker with the license on it.
If it was preinstalled Windows 8 from a major manufacturer, the 'license key' will be embedded in the BIOS. Again, no sticker.
If they 'sold' you a Windows license, they are required, as per MS licensing rules, to provide you the install media and the license key. If you did not get all of that, you did not get a valid OS.
