Hi,

I bought Windows 7 Home Premium when it was released and installed it. (And activated)
I re-installed and activated again a few years ago when I bought a SSD.
Now I'm replacing my entire computer. Can I install it and activate it again with the same product key or will Microsoft freak out and deny it because it's a totally different computer from previous activations?

Solution
Install it, if it fails to verify, then call them and ask for a code. They are the arbiters of what is allowed beyond the strict wording of the EULA, and they do make exceptions. There is no ethical issue in asking for something special as long as you are honest in your response to their questions. The worst that can happen is that they can say "no" and you have to buy a new licence. So be prepared for that. If the cost of a new licence makes a difference in your build/buy planning, then you may have to decide in advance not to risk the decline of the code.

Another thing to try is the Microsoft Software Recovery site. It will require that you enter your current activation code and will let you know if their system will accept...

Thank you both for your replies.

It's the retail version. (My box is actually green, not blue :))

I tried the Recovery site and there was no problem with my key, so I guess everything is alright and if not I will call them.
Thanks for the help! :)
