AMD still don't have a driver update for gta though, you can download it but it's in beta and that does not sound fun considering there is a warning before you download it saying " this comes as is" while I believe nvidia had an update out on release day?, AMD is for the R9 200 series btw not sure about their other cards. That being said, getting the card with more memory will mean you can run the graphics a little higher, my 2 270X's only have 2gb each and run the game quite nicely but I can't turn too much up with high textures on

Im not brave enough plus the 290X can do almost anything! saving for 2 of the 8gb Vapor X versions

I was just trying to get across that the amd driver works fine

I didn't say they didn't, just making a point, but thank you for letting both me and the OP know, may go download them now

friends got a 7870 using the beta driver, no issues so far and gta runs great on it

To me there is no different between beta and WHQL one. Both are the same in term of issues and stability. The WHQL one just got signed from MS. That's all to it. This process can take sometime from MS so both AMD and Nvidia mark the one without certification as beta. There is a case with nvidia releasing beta driver just to meet with game launch date then a week later the very same driver was mark with WHQL. And from my past experience there was WHQL driver that having problem only to be replaced with beta driver that contain the fix a week later. If i refuse to use beta driver just because of the word 'beta' associate with the driver then i have to use older driver for two or three months.

I love amd but I can't speak for amd since I have the gtx they not only had a driver update before the game came out they came out with a second update after the game was out for some time and it very much optimized.

Both can run it fine, and about the same. My R9 270 did very well with it, And it would have maxed it out if it had more V-Ram, And my GTX 970 crushes it. But yes it is fine with AMD cards . Except the MSAA artifact problem some people get. But using catalyst driver 14.4 solves that problem. And it is fine with Nvidia. And the same for CPU's I have no idea why people claim GTA V uses lots of CPU power. GTA V hardly stresses the CPU at all. So any CPU from AMD or Intel dual core or quad core will be fine. I still have my old i5 750 sitting next to my newer PC, And I tested the Ivy i5 and the first gen i5 with a 9800 GTX+ and a 650 Ti, And a R9 270 and a GTX 970, Both CPU's performed about equal with each GPU. And the more powerful the GPU the less the game needed to pull from the GPU. So honestly this game is not very demanding at all. It is just not well optimized. But because it is not very demanding this helps make up for it's poor optimization. I would really like to see Rockstar patch it some more! But it looks like all they cared about was just getting it running. But even people with old RV770 and G80 and G92 GPU's can run this game.
