I am currently upgrading an old Gateway DX4300-11 but im having a problem with my ssd. It doesnt show up in the BIOS or windows 10 tech preview installation. I have looked around on the internet with no luck on finding a solution to this problem. I was hoping I could get help here. (Its an Intel 520 series ssd 120GB) I have tried switching sata cables but it didnt help. there is currently no other hard drive. if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it please tell me. Thanks!
Also if you have any hardware suggestions please tell them ;)

Welcome to the community, Adi!

I'd suggest you to make sure that the SSD is properly plugged and it's in the first available SATA port (0) on the motherboard.
Go into BIOS and make sure you have that port enabled and the SATA mode set to AHCI.
If that doesn't help, I recommend you to reset BIOS by re-seating the CMOS battery on the motherboard or using any of the other methods listed here: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS

Hope this works! Keep me posted though! :)

How do I set it to AHCI? im kindof a noob in the bios. and it is plugged in to "sata_001" and it does heat up. but the ssd cant be seen from anything. thanks for the answer. (edit) I just looked at the mobo it shows that the BIOS is "AMIBIOS 1999" just putting that out there if it helps.

Hi again, Adi Avraham! :)

Just go to "Advanced Options" within the BIOS and look for "Integrated devices" or "Chipset". There you should be able to find the option to change the SATA mode to AHCI from IDE/SATA. If that doesn't help, refer to your motherboard manufacturer's website, find your model and look for any upgrades on the SATA drivers for your mobo.
It seems like a pretty old BIOS though. Check the model of your motherboard through Windows.
Go to Windows/Start > open All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > then click System Information.

Good luck!

I just went through all these things and they did not work. also i cannot access windows as it is a new ssd with no installation. i have a feeling that the mobo died, also im writing this from my laptop that i use for school. also i have been thinking, would it be easier to just replace the mobo and cpu? or would that be more hassle because i was planning to upgrade those eventually also if you have any cpu/mobo suggestions for gaming pls tell me. ive been looking online for a new mobo, prefferably in the range of 100-150 and I founda good i5 cpu. but wouldnt i need to change everything then? thanks for all the help! -Adi

Hi again, Adi!

Well, since I'm an official representative of Western Digital Company, I'm afraid I cannot help you with any specific referrals for other components! :( However, I would suggest you to start a thread in the Systems section in Tom's Hardware. I believe there a lot of experienced PC builders lurking around there and they would be more than helpful with specific recommendations for any component you wish to upgrade and its compatibility with all your other specs.

I hope I was helpful though! Best of luck! :)
