Graphics cards advice Radeon or Nvidia?

After a disastrous attempt at getting an answer from a few certain members of the community I have decided to try again.

I want to choose a graphics card for my PC build, I'm on a budget and I really must emphasise that my favourite game is skyrim and with the paid mods implementation by valve just recently removed, I feel like I must tell you now that I will be heavily modding the game, specifically graphics mods that will give my graphics card a lot of pain.

To run these mods from what I've gathered is that I will require 4GB of VRAM to be able to run these mods well. So the choices I have are...

Nvidia gtx 960 4GB
Radeon r9 280x 4GB

I have different and sometimes crazy information from several different people that AMD cards are hotter, draw more power and break quicker but are cheaper than Nvidia, I've also heard some retarded shit like a Nvidia card that clearly says 4GB of VRAM doesn't actually have 4GB of VRAM.

Question is: What should I get?

Rules:

No RCFProd or distured force
No Nvidia/AMD fanboys.

As the consumer all I want is what's best for me, anyone who licks the balls of a corporation is just going to get milked for his/her money. So don't do it.

AMD is supposed to be releasing a R9 380 late next month. It will be using High Bandwidth Memory, which is new technology where the memory is now stacked on the GPU silicon, has HUGE bandwidth, and cuts power usage by over 50% and increases memory speed by 3x or more. It will also be fully DX12 compatible which will be in Windows 10, which is due out in July.

I personally would wait to see how this card performs before making a decision, because I believe that it will just rock the industry.

As for longevity, I have had so many video cards over the last 35 years. I've had both AMD and Nvidia cards die on me. I've also had both AMD and Nvidia cards last many years. It is true that current AMD video cards are hotter than Nvidia cards. A...

Out of those 2 get 280x, it's faster.
Non-reference cooler Radeaons are just as cool as nVidias cards, just some people like to colorize things.
Though yeah, still only the reference cooler by AMD can get crispy sometimes.
About nVidia vRAM it's for now only related to GTX 970, which have 3.5GB fast vRAM and 0.5GB slow vRAM.
But still out of these two get 280x, it' around ~15% faster.

I just want to add that AMD supposly will be releasing/showcasing new GPU's by end of June.
Just adding that there.

I have a 970 MSI which replaced 2 7870's in crossfire, its way faster uses way less power than the AMD's even when they are in single mode and is as recently stated by Toms Hardware faster than the 290X in most cases regardless of the so called ram issue. Yes it cost a bit more but it is worth it (just sell your granny) and you won't be disappointed unless you want to run 4k but non of the other cards mentioned will run 4K either.

It is true that current AMD video cards are hotter than Nvidia cards. A few years ago, it was the Nvidia cards that were so hot, you didn't want one.

Everything bounces back and forth between these two companies. I seriously do not feel either company is always the best. Right now, I have an Nvidia based card. My next video card will come from the company that has the biggest bang for the dollar. And right now, who that will be is unknown.
