I want to replace the stick heatsink and and fan that came with me socket AM3+ CPU. Its a FX-8320. Not overclocking, just vanilla config for my sons computer but when it spins up I can hear it across the room.

Im going to replace it, but nothing too tall or needing to get to the bottom of the MB. Just something with similar dimensions but a better, bigger perhaps, quieter fan!

Suggestions? Seen some on newegg but they have dubious feedback.

Solution
Always check out cooler master for a heatsink especially the hyper 212 evo which suits the purpose very well and cheaper too about 50 dollars I suppose

Thanks PapaWood for your response, but I'm really looking for something less expensive that will replace the existing heatsink and fan with out needing to get to the bottom of the MB and install a support bracket. Done it myself several times on other builds but I dont need it for this one. Just need something a little better, and more quiet.

I use the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO on my primary gaming rig. But alas, this one too needs a bracket where I need to get to back side of motherboard, which I want to avoid.

Looks like Ive got very few options from filtering through the newegg. Anything has got to be better than what I have now though.

can you just get a better/new replacement fan for like 2-8 bucks and still use the cooler with that ?? just for stock running that maybe all that's needed

what cooler is on it now ?? stock amd ?

a 70mm 4 pin

this cooler has worked well for a few amd and intel builds and it uses the amd latch as the stock cooler so you don't need to any unnecessary board disassembly just latch it down like the stock cooler

I'm using it now on a i5 build from a old am3+ build

I suspect the AMD stock 125w CPU cooler is still a better solution for you than the Arctic Alpine GT ... assuming you have the 125w 'stock' solid copper base/heat-pipe variety.

Once again ... have you tried setting up your CPU fan profile? Either from within the BIOS or using a third-party utility?

No, I haven't. I have played around with MSI Afterburner. Its set to default and I only hear the fan when the PC is in gaming load and the fan kicks up. Just hanging around the desktop it doesnt spin that loud to hear. Its all stock. Ill keep an eye on it.
