The drive shows up in disc manager. it doesn't show any partitions or anything so I can't reformat it. It just says no media and it says that the drive is formatted as master boot record.
Is this a brand-new USB external hard drive or is it one you've previously used and you know there should be data on the drive?
I had some things on it but nothing important. Something went wrong while writing something to the flash drive. Recovering the data isn't important to me, I just want to be able to use it.
Does the flash drive listed in Disk Management bear a drive letter? If so, you may just be dealing with a defective flash drive. They're quite vulnerable t failure unfortunately.
On the other hand you've stated that there's an indication that the drive has been formatted. Although not definitive that would tend to indicate the drive is non-defective. Have you tried installing the device in another PC? I suppose you've tried different USB ports on the PC you're using.
Yeah, it has a letter. Tried all the ports too. I just got it yesterday. Maybe I'll try to take it back to wal-mart tonight. Im not too sure if they'll take it back with no packaging but its worth a try.
