I just wanted to make sure it was compatible and did not require a bios update. 1 guy at microcenter said it might, but two others said it will work. just wanted to make sure

As long as it gas bios rev f12 or newer you'll be fine. Why are you putting an unlocked k cpu on a board that can't utilize to its full potential? K cpus are designed for overclocking and the b85 is a non overclocking board. If you want to oc you need a z87 or z97. If you are not overclocking just get a cheaper(usually cheaper)non k 4690.

well on their website it only gives f12-14, if f12 is the lowest bios update, should it come pre loaded?

Unfortunatly the only place i can get a non k 4690 is newegg for more money than the k version
