Question about using dual bands, and naming 2.4 and 5ghz SSID's

I just got a Netgear N750 WNDR4300 dual band router, and I'm hearing different theories on using the two different bands, and naming the SSID's.

Right now the 2.4 has a different name than the 5ghz band. My understanding is that the 2.4 has better range, but a little slower, and the 5ghz band will be faster, but needs a straighter shot, if you will, so essentially, you use whichever band will be most beneficial, depending on your proximity to the router.

That makes sense, but I read some people arguing that if you name both bands the same, the device you're using will use the best one. Other people argue that will create a conflict.

I always get good answers here, so that is why I'm asking....who's right?

FWIW.....I have my 2.4ghz band on channel 6, and the 5ghz band is on channel 44

Thanks, in advance!

Probably better to seperate them. That way you can force what device connects to what. 4K TV streaming UltraHD netflix, use the 5ghz SSID. Tablet surfing facebook, connect it to the 2.4ghz one so it doesn't interfere with the netflix or whatever high demand bandwidth.
