Please help me pick the right components to stay UNDER $2000, while achieving top AAA titles like crysis 3 in 4k @ avg. 60+ fps. I was thinking z97 1150 chipset probably i5-4690k possibly sli 980s windforce gaming g1. Its just hard to budget the right parts for the job. 3.0usb dont need monitor or peripherals just a capable tower setup. Ill be using Displayport for single monitor of course. Really the main issue im having with this is budgeting the motherboard good for this job and storage that possibly could be done in raid like possibly some adata sp9xx 256gb ssd or something that would be over 1gbs if raid0 and budget could allow for. Any and all help is welcome and im thankful!!!

This might get you 4K at 60FPS, and is only slightly overbudget.

RAID SSDs are a waste of time. (And I have a pair in RAID 0, no visible difference) If we are going new we can get an M.2 SSD in there that is about that fast and avoids all the raid issues.

$2000 is an ambitious budget, but it should just squeek in. However, this will not produce an average of 60FPS, you will need to increase the budget significantly to achieve that.

In budget, average 45-50 FPS at 4K with maximum settings:

Pretty much all decent chipsets support RAID onboard, no need for add-in cards. I can't remember the last time I had a motherboard that didn't offer RAID, and that is going back to IDE days.

thanks for the quick reply. also i think im going to go dual 980s and here you loud and clear about raid at this budget. also which gtx 980's would you guys all recommend?! also if i were to play 1440p+ with same senerario what could play avg around 144hz? could you guys possibly provide an example of a build like from pcpartpicker that youd use for around $2000 that does 1440p+ @144fps, and or 4k 60fps
thanks ahead of time

this way i can still boost gb/s w/ raid0 the ssd's like the on linustechtips videos on youtube. also better cooler with case? and will850w be enough to overclock cpu and gpu?? also with the mobo i believe itd be sl x8/x8 pcie 3.0 right will that negatively effect fps compared to something that can do 16x/8x or even 16x/16x??

instead of the unlocked i5, id also look into the Xeon 1231, pretty much an i7 cheaper, but doesnt have overclocking, gives you the 8 threads starting to be reccommended in many newer games, will probally handle sli/crossfire better.

Nope, the Xeon 1220s are all just quad cores comparable to i5, Xeon 1230s have hyperthreading, they are pretty much an i7 missing integrated graphics, and also much cheaper.

for 8 thread intel if you want unlocked go with i7 4790k, and for locked for no overclocking and to save a ton of money, the Xeon 1231.

Overclocking doesnt give you very much performance boosts, and really is not worth a price premium to have imo.

Depends on the overclock. All you do is change voltages. If you find the sweet spot, performance CAN increase in CPU intensive games(i.e the new Batman, GTA V)

yes but by how much? and was it worth all that price premium to gain that little performance?

4k its going to be the gpu setup struggling
