Hey guys
So I'm planning to build my first gaming PC and I found these Used GPUs for $235

R9 280x crossfire
Or
HD 7990
They both have same price.

I know the 7990 is two 7970
So should I get 2 280x or an HD 7990
Also is my build good enough for these cards

case: Corsair Carbide SPEC-01
Fans: 3x Cooler Master SickleFlow Red LED
CPU: core i5 4690
CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3
Motherboard: MSI Z97-G43 (is it good for crossfire?)
PSU: corsair CX850M 850w
RAM: corsair vengeance 2x4/1600mhz (8GB)
Hard drive: western digital 1TB

Hello,

As you mentioned, a 7990 is a 280x X2 just in a single card, not double.

Ideally, they should perform identically, but that probably isnt the case. The difference would be very minimal and having a loose 280x may be more beneficial than having 1 card hogging both GPU's without choice.

7990 Pros-
-Should be more reliable in new games, as Xfire drivers sometimes take a few months.
-More power effecient by roughly 50 Watts

Cons-
-Most likely out of the manufacturer 2 year warranty from ANY manufacturer.
-triple slot

280x x2 PRO's
- Still likely covered in the manufacturer 2 year warranty. (huge for used cards)
- Option to move GPU's around for troubleshooting or a 2nd PC

Cons-
previously mentioned - uses more power, takes 2...

Personally id go with 2 units instead of 1.

I would personally buy a 7990. Not all games support xfire and gpu scaling on some games is extremely bad.

The 7990 will be more efficient, output less heat and use less power than 2 r9 280x's. Also an r9 280x is a rebranded 7970, so i would get a 7990 (which is 2 7970s). Also, you can buy a cheaper mobo as u would only need 1 pci-e 16x slot.
