I've been trying to overclock my cpu but when I hit 4.1 GHz, I blue screen until I reset my clock in the bios. I'm sort of new to overclocking and haven't done much before and someone was saying it might be because I'm not increasing the voltage. If that's why it's blue screening, how do I know how much I need to increase the voltage? I'm looking at a 4.3/4.4 GHz overclock.

Edit: Not a 4.3 GHz overclock, a overclock to 4.3 GHz from 3.8.

Solution
Indeed, Asrock 970 Extreme3 has no VRM heatsink and only have 4+1 power phase. This is not enough to overclock a 8-core CPU. Instability and Blue screens are almost guarantee.

Need more information like which motherboard do you have (If it is not a good one it might be why you can't get anything working). Also need to know what PSU do you have.

You can get Voltage up to 1.56V but not more. CPU socket temp should NEVER be over 70C.

To monitor temperature : Use HWmonitor and look for motherboard CPU socket temp (softwares tends to misread AMD CPU sensor so we use motherboard sensor instead).

An overclocked AMD FX CPU should have an aftermarket CPU cooler.

To test your overclock, run PRIME 95 and be sure that every 8 threads does not fail. run the test for at least 15-20 min. Monitor temperature during this time. If it goes higher than 70C, lower your voltage and your frequency.

Start by getting the highest frequency you can reach from your stock voltage, then when it start blue screening, upgrade voltage and run prime 95. if even one threads fails, upgrade voltage again and rerun the test. follow these steps until stable overclock.

FAQ :
when running at 100% my CPU voltage gets lower than what i have set in bios is it normal ? - Yes it is totally normal as your CPU it's called Load Line Calibration (LLC) it drop the Vcore when CPU loaded since it requires less voltage from the increased amount of current.

What happens if only one or two threads fails after 20 min ? : Well, in game when your CPU is loaded, if a thread of the game is on one of the unstable core, your computer will crash and you will have to reboot.

CoreTemp says temperature is 18C at idle, why HWmonitor says it is at 40C ? Thermodynamic laws are specific, it is imposible to cool something under room temperature with only use of air current. Long story short, CoreTemp misread AMD CPU temp and it is very unsafe to follow this monitoring software for overclocking
