A Z97 would also allow a bit faster ram, probably up to 2133mhz with that cpu.For a sli ready motherboard would this one do fine,
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97e
make sure the psu supports it as well.

For ram,

the 2133mhz would get to expensive and with a H97 motherboard would 1600mhz only be usefull.

You can't really overclock with that cpu so i don't see the reason for such a high priced motherboard, but it's up to you.The one i linked is $60 cheaper at the moment and has about as much to offer.

The one i7Baby linked has at least a better soundchip.

I've found that the i7 4790k isn't really worth overclcoking. It'll self turbo to 4.4GHz anyway. And for that I'd just use a Coolermaster Hyper 212 evo ($30 Newegg). If you want to OC it you'll need a H100i to get any meaningful increase eg to 4.7GHz.

Go for H97 board with 4790, or Z97 if you decide in favour for 4790K, because Z board allows you OC. Also, think about M.2 connector, it is faster connection for SSD, you can buy Samsung SM951 with incredibly fast write/read speeds (2100 read and 1500 write, which is about 3x faster than Sata 6GB/s SSD). If you wanna save on motherboard, try something from older sockets, Z/H87, tehere are some good deals and those boards support 4790.

Both 4790 and 4790K has HT tech inside, the only difference by default is frequency and OC capabilies. If you're not going to OC, I'd save money and stick with 4790.
