I am trying to install ESXi 5.1 on an Intel NUC, booting from a USB drive. All seems to be working fine until with the progress bar at the top of the screen until it finishes with "Relocating modules and starting up the kernel" and goes no further. The screen goes black and nothing else happens. I have updated BIOS, looked at the Video card properties, and read lots of articles. I have an older NUC that will install immediately using the same USB, etc so I know the hardware and software are fine. Just something about this new NUC that I cannot figure out. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a 5th gen NUC. I found the below article helpful. Why are you installing 5.1 instead of 5.5 or 6.0? I installed 6.0 and only had to fix the AHCI driver map item. This article assumes you have certain knowledge already, but I was able to reference other articles to get through the steps no problem. I used a USB with the ESXI ISO installed to it and a low profile 8GB USB drive which I installed the EXSI 6.0 hypervisor to. This way it looks nice and doesn't get knocked off the back. My NUC is model BOXNUC5I3RYH.

You can always make a custom ISO that fixed everything out of the gate as well, but I didn't bother.
