I recently bought a msi 970 gaming motherboard and a amd-fx 8350 black edition and after weeks of waiting for my stuff to arive, it turns out this cpu does not fit my motherboard. I sent both of them back to amazon and I need some recommendations of motherboard cpu combos that are similar to the ones that I mentioned above that are good for gaming.

Common misinterpretation of clock speeds. Unfortunately, you can't look at clock speeds and judge which is quicker. You can only compare clock speeds if two processors share the same archectcture. i.e. 4460 vs 4690k. / 8350 vs 8320 / G3258 vs i3 4150. Not 8350 vs 4690k / 3330 vs. 3360.

The list goes on and on.

This article describes this beautifully: http://www.howtogeek.com/177790/why-you-cant-use-cpu-clock-speed-to-compare-computer-performance/

So, my suggestion is this. Go all out and get a 4790k. Go half out and get a Xeon E3 1231-V3 or go almost half out and get the i5-4460.

The thing about Witcher 3 is that it is literally the hardest game to run.. That being said, an 8350 would be my last choice. Now, since the game...

What would you recommend that is in the same price range and that can give me the same performance or better?

This recommended path also has an upgrade math. Whereas the 8350 does not.. Like at all.

Proof i5 will win:

Not the greatest video. The 8350 will only win in video encoding and 3D rendering. That's about it.. i5 will almost always win in games.

Wouldn't the faster processor be better for gaming? It's seems that the 8350 is faster than the i5 or maybe i'm wrong and the i5 is better. I plan on getting witcher 3 and the recommended cpu is a i7.

Now, since the game hasn't even released yet, I suggest that you wait and see what the benchmarks are looking like for the 4460, i7's, etc.. And then make a knowledgeable purchase from there.
