Am i going insane? (40 FPS isn't ''playable'')

Seriously now, i might not be inquiring about this problem for the first time, but i'm in desperate need of a solution.

So far with this build

FX 8350 4.0ghz
GTX 970 G1
8GB 1600mhz RAM
750W bronze CM psu

My gaming experience has been a pile of junk.

This build has been plaguing me with a shitton of problems since i ever got it which include but are not limited to (incomprehensible aliasing problems, Motion sickness infusing Stuttering, and lower fps throughout)

However lets leave those for later, as they're the MINOR issue here... This is my real problem now..

80% of games :
30 FPS = (Laggingly?)Unplayable
40 FPS = Mind Chopping motion sickness ( Feels like 25 - 28 FPS)
50 FPS = 30 fps on a console
60 FPS = Only frame rate that represents itself.

Things i've done include but aren't limited to :

-Molesting every setting Nvidia Control Panel (Nvidia Inspector too...)
-Testing out every form of Vsync known to man (and consequently disabling them)
-Wiping out the remnants of my GPU Driver and re-installing it (this build is 1 month old after all)
-Using Different HDMI cables connected to the same (6hz 1080p) monitor
- Component Temps are fine

Still, 40 fps gives me motion sickness.. and oh god when i move the camera, the choppiness with the blur, it's like playing crysis 1 at 20 fps all over again..

Most cognizable in games like GTA V, FC4, Crysis 3.. etc

Only feasible option left for me is to downgrade my drivers... to something lower than 347.88 (first driver i had)

pls help

There is a huge difference between how sensitive some people are when using a mouse and joystick/controller. With a mouse, you feel every bit of sluggishness as you move the pointer/view around. With a joystick, you just hold it down and wait for it to reach its destination. As a result, those who are sensitive to latency, will have to have more FPS when using a mouse.

This is a problem I have as well. A couple things that can help. 1) shoot for 60-80 FPS, if not higher. For myself. Hitting 70-80ish FPS, typically is enough to not feel motion sickness at all. 60 FPS is decent, but not perfect. 2) Turn off V-sync. This will add latency, as well as stuttering when you fail to reach 60 FPS. 3) You are on a PC, you are given...

This will add latency, as well as stuttering when you fail to reach 60 FPS. 3) You are on a PC, you are given lots of settings for a reason. Fine tune the game to reach 60+ FPS. PC dev's don't intend for you to play at max settings, even if there is a group of forum goes who think that way. Break the mold, and adjust your settings for 60+ FPS. 4) Get a higher refresh monitor with low input latency. This will also help a ton. Not only can you turn off v-sync and notice less tearing, but the latency can be huge on non-gaming monitors/tv's.

This is a problem I used to experience, and didn't realize the problem until I upgraded to a high end PC and all my problems went away. Over the years, I've narrowed the problem to latency induced motion sickness, otherwise known as simulator sickness. Controllers don't do it for you, because they don't have the same level of connectivity and do not feel real enough for you to experience it. But when you do get low latency, nothing feels as right as a mouse.

Thank you for the input , I have been a PC gamer for the better part of my life and i do know that Consoles are built to run at 30 fps and make that a smooth experience, but on the other hand i can tell if my FPS looks abnormally sluggish especially since my prior builds were low-end....

This isn't a problem i've had from any of my previous builds (i3 gtx 660) (cor2duo gtx 550) and is only prevalent on this specific build. As i mentioned i have fiddled the brains out of Vsync, off, on and off again, yet the choppinies is ever so present. If this problem was slightly relate-able or had a reliable solution, i really wouldn't be posting this. I seem to be the only one (out of many others i know) to be facing this problem.

Is the display different from your last one? Some displays are absurd when it comes to latency.

Do you have "Maximum pre-rendered frames" set past 1? This can add latency as well.

Is this specific to a game? Not all games are a like.

Make sure to update the drivers. You should also check your RAM, bad RAM can cause stuttering.

I had a 75hz 1280x1024 monitor with VGA before this, while i did use my current monitor for the last few days of my prior build, i can't really recall the FPS problems, which makes me think that HDMI might be causing this problem, but isn't HDMI a standard that is never to fault, while VGA to DVI is the real problem?

And yes i tried setting the pre-rendered frames to 1 2 3 4 0 , i updated all my drivers and wiped them and updated them all over...
But actually no, this problem is less noticable in some games , mostly linear games (alien isolation), and a micro-micro stuttering mess in games like FarCry 4...

In GTA V setting DX to 10 made the game 50% smoother at lower frame (something about the camera movement improved) but isn't really a stable solution hence the visual downgrade..

With a FX 8350 4.0ghz your not going to hold 40+ FPS in current titles In high and Ultra I don't care how much you play with the settings. If you want constant stable FPS a I5 4690K and above will be your only options. In all three titles you mention with a I5 4690K @ 4.5ghz and a 970 GTX "Look at my sig" I never go below 60 FPS, I don't play in ULTA my settings are high because some of the Effect are annoying and give me Headaches.

The FX 8350 isn't the core problem right here, and I CAN hold more than 40 fps in most titles AND at very high settings. This isn't about my FPS being high or low, it's about the overall fluidity of that FPS in which such presumably high FPS seem too choppy.

-------I just ran an FC4 benchmark and came with 2 surprising results : The FPS hiccups are accompanied with -10 TO -20 GPU Usage drops causing lower fps for the duration of 1 - 3 secs. With a power TDP avg 60% (weird , Is my gpu not getting enough power? or could this be the hard drive?)

---Setting ram voltage to 1600 (from 1333) and disabling CoolNQueit (AMD) fixed 60% of stutter induced choppiness.

While the FPS at 30 - 45 still feel like 25 ( i'll try a new monitor)

I'd like to thank everyone for the help

Hey @ OP,
I had same problemlike u with my laptop. 30fps felt like 10, 50like 30 and only when i could stay above 60fps it was good. Rest completly unplayable for me. Like u I tried everything. Reinstall, different drivers...... but it didn t get any better.
I sold the laptop and build a desktop (i5 4460, gtx970). The problem is gone. Completely. Now 30fps feels like 30 and 50 like 50.... I didn t find a solution til today, I just can guess. I think it must be 2 parts or more in pc which don t work together good. But I could be totally wrong on this one...
Good luck
