Does the overall physical size of a CPU chip affect its speed?

I was just curious about this stuff.
If we were to expand the size of a CPU chip/die (something like core i7 4770k) to 10 times its physical size by elongating the connecting wires or bus between the CPU components like cores, IMC, cache, etc. Will that make CPU's performance slower?
 
it would not heat as much but that's the only advantage i suppose. maybe less current leakage. the chip itself is not just wide, it's also tall, built on layers, i'm sure the designers are debating this on any new cpu and come up with a solution. they want to keep the area as small as possible too such that more cpu cores can fit on a single die when building them.
