My laptop's HDD got broken so I replaced it with a new one. I also had to reinstall windows and now Wi-fi does not work. Ethernet cable does not work either. The wlan adapter and ethernet adapter are shown in device manager under Other Devices and not Network Adapters. Now I need to use an USB adapter. If I tell him to search for driver updates, Windows does not find any.
I had a similar problem with the GPU. It was shown as "VGA Adapter" in Device Manager but after I manually downloaded the drivers from the AMD site it worked fine. I think I need to find out the brand which made the wi-fi adapter for my laptop and download it from their site but I have no idea how to do this. The laptop is a sony vaio.

I need help. Did a XP Home Edition factory reload/restore on my Gateway MX3231 SN N6367F1035014 using the Gateway recovery disk that came with the machine. The WLAN adapter has gone missing and does not appear in the Device Manager - only the cable adapter shows. Loaded SP3 - still not there. Loaded Win7 and it DOES show and will go on the internet but VERY VERY SLOW - as you would expect. Installed Xp Pro - no adapter. Need to use XP due to slow processor but can't find the right WLAN adapter. Suggestions?
