Can I run my CPU with the side panel open?

Hi,so I have shifted to this new house where the temperature in the room where I have kept my CPU is very shitty.I mean on idle my CPU stays at like 45*C whereas under load it goes up to 59*C.

The temperature remains stable when using air conditioning and stuff but I cannot have it on all the time.

So my question is,will it be safe to run my CPU with the side panel open?
And if I can, will it help in lowering my temperatures?

It WILL help if your case does not have adequate airflow.. the downside is you cannot establish a positive pressure in the case which will prevent your computer from becoming a ball of dust. If you leave your case open a long time, be prepared to clean it often to get rid of the dust accumulation.

If you have adequate airflow, and it is more of a dust/thermal contact issue, removing the case side panel will probably make things worse, since you will develop hot pockets of air around your components.

Hello Dodo,

Its normal for a CPU to run at 60*C especially the thermal threshold of intel processor can handle is i think upto 90. But if its AMD then you need to consult the webiste for its specification.

It will be safe to run your CPU wuth side panel open, BUT make sure there is NO ACTIVITY AROUND IT like no drinking, playing ball. It wont help much but will give you max temp of 52-55. I would highly advise not to.

Other options are that you can buy aftermarket coolers like Cooler Master Hyper EVO" or any other CPU cooler with bulky heatsink +fan, make sure it is the right socket size. Last thing is that your air flow is correct, from intake to exhaust.

Hope this helps :)

As already mentioned by onichikun and HiggsPrime, running the PC without side panel is not good and if it helps with temperatures that means you have case airflow problems. I would suggest giving your PC a good clean (be extremely careful not to break anything and don't use solvents or soap) and adding 1 or 2 case fans if your case have mount points for additional fans.
