Have a home built desktop pc running Windows 8.1, connected to a Cradelpoint 1200MBR-7EC wireless router. pc is connected via ethernet cable to the router. For months I have gotten internet on the computer then one day turned it on and no internet to the computer. cannot even get to the router page using 192.168.0.1. other wireless devices connect just fine and have full bandwidth but cannot get anything through the ethernet line.

Thanks

Mike

Did your Ethernet card die? I had a on board Ethernet die on me a couple months back. Had to get a PCI Ethernet card to get online.

Download drivers.

check your IP address when on Ethernet

Make sure Ethernet card is enabled in devices page.

Tested the ethernet cables on my laptop. and it got through the IP Address and I was able to reset the network. So I don't think it s router related since LAN works on my laptop. problem is something with my desktop I think.

UPDATE: Went through command prompt and tried ipcong/release then ipconfig/renew and cmd has told me that for the Tunnel Adaptor isatap the media state is at media disconnected. Same for Tunnel adaptor local area connection 2. media state is set at media disconnected.

Solved it! Found the solution on this site:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/635300-media-disconnected-error.html

Followed these steps

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Typed the netsh strings into command prompt

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.
