I have been comparing motherboards all over the place. To me it seems that Gigabyte has the best board for the money you spend. I have used Asus, Msi, and Biostar boards in the past with Biostar lasting the longest. I plan on updating to play Dragon Age Inquisition and so i am looking at I5 quad core due to they run cooler and better then amd. I only plan on getting a motherboard, cpu and cooler, already have everything else. The budget runs around $325. I have put together what i think will work: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Thanks, Bob

If you're not planning to overclock and going with a locked core i5, you could go with an h97 motherboard. The z series is primarily for overclocking and to do that you'd need a k series i5.

Haswells are known to run pretty hot.... More so then most of the amd cpus ive owned anyways.. For me Gigabyte has been the most reliable of the bunch then asrock and asus cant go wrong good'ol gigabyte, i have a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 currently never had a issue decent OC features. Iv'e never heard of biostar before im guessing it must be an American board or something as they don't sell that brand in my country lol..

If you're in the u.s. and feel like taking advantage of mail in rebates, this motherboard is a z97 on sale (though no sli support). If you think you'll want sli support for nvidia graphics cards then stick with the z97x sli you originally mentioned.

The 4590 is only around $10 more than the 4440 and it's faster. The 4440 speeds are base 3.1ghz and 3.3ghz turbo when turbo boost is active. The 4590's speeds are 3.3ghz base with a 3.7ghz turbo when turbo boost is active.
