I posted an ad on kijiji, (canadian craigslist), saying I was looking for new or used gtx 960/970s or 280xs or 280. I am looking to build a new pc and so I figure I could save a little on a graphics card. This guy comes outta nowhere and tells me I could buy his unovercloked gtx 780 lightning for 300$ (cad so like 250 usd). I know it is a crazy deal but I am only looking to spend 250.... Should I do it. However I am also worried it is a little out dated. Or will this card last me a little while (like 3 years) .

Just make sure you can test the card before buying. If the seller refuses, I'd be cautious.

I also live in Canada and buy a lot of stuff off Kijiji and have encountered pretty good sellers. I bought my two R9 280x...

Honestly, no. I wouldn't. You could buy a brand new R9 290/290x for a lower price and get nearly the same performance, sometimes better if ran at higher resolutions, and keep in mind that it's also NEW. The 3gb on the 780 vs the 4gb on the 290/290x could give you extra performance at higher resolutions while buying the card for cheaper and it would be new instead of used. IMHO, no. Don't buy it..

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202143 If you turn .com into .ca It becomes about 400 with taxes and shipping. I am canadian....

In the GPU hierarchy, the GTX 780 is ranked as the equivalent of the R9 290 series, so the performance would be similar. Brand new, R9 290s still retail for over $400 with tax, so at $300 it's a good price for the GTX 780. R9 290x costs even more.

Lol, I just posted a link to a $240 R9 290 that is new.. I know what they retail for xD The R9 290x costs more RETAIL. But not all prices are retail bud. Especially after they have been released for awhile.

With shipping and tax, you're still looking at about $430 for the R9 290 card posted there, so we're still talking a difference of $130 for what will amount to not a significant performance gain going with the 290.

Another option, going second hand here, would be to pair two R9 280x cards. It would cost roughly the same and perform better still.

That's US pricing you posted. We pay a lot more in Canada. That same card, with tax and shipping here, is $430.

Honestly dude, I wouldn't buy used pc parts unless it is something like a case.. Even then. There could be stuff missing. I would buy it new, good deal or not unless it is an R9 290 for 150 that works aha

I bought my two Gigabyte R9 280x Windforce cards, second hand, for about $320 combined. They were barely used and I got to test them before buying. They still work perfectly fine and the performance screams - I can run any current gen game on max details no problem :)

If you're on 1080p you could've gotten away with a single 280x lol. Or a 290/970 if you want extra performance but don't want any cfx issues.

Single 280x would get you max details on a lot of games, but not all. A game like GTA V needs juice to max out, and I'm running it at Very High / Ultra details with max AF, HD shadows, the whole nine yards smooth as butter :D

hence the "get away with a single" I didn't say max every game haha. Any microstuttering though?

Hardly any. GTA V has had a lot of performance issues since launch though, and some of the patches have done more harm than good. It runs really well now since getting the latest patches and graphics driver.
