Okay, this question is coming from a software engineer who is a rookie when it comes to hardware.

I currently have a custom built gaming PC with:
Intel Core Quado !@CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz.
5.00GB RAM @ 667 MHz
GEForce GTX260

I just purchased a PNY XLR8 GeForce GTX 970 video card. I am wondering if this will give me any increase in FPS in my games. Even though I have an older CPU and not a lot of RAM. My questions is: will this new GPU increase my framerate? I would like to play some of the newer games on medium or high settings. If not, what other upgrades should ! make?

Thank you in advance!

Please contact me if you ever have a software question!

It might bottleneck because the CPU will hold back the GPU. If not, you will see improvement as it's a drastic change from you GTX260.
To get the best FPS and Graphics quality possible, things to think about changing are the CPU, and RAM. Games such as witcher 3 now require 6GB RAM to play, so who knows what other games might need in the future. A good sound GB of RAM is 8GB which is what most people, both gaming and general PC's have.

The 970 is a great card so that's fine. Could think about upgrading your CPU to an i5 maybe? Some say they perform better for gaming than an i7. But there's only so much I can say about CPU's as they aren't my strong point.

Hope this helps :)
