Hello all,

this is my rig :

amd-fx6100
r9290 asus
be quiet 530watt psu
asrock 970 exteme 4.
8 gb ram 1600mhz

I recently upgraded to a 290. now i know there is a bottleneck so i was going to buy a new cpu and psu.
My question, should i go for the 8320 ? or just buy a better cpu cooler (stock atm) and overclock my fx6100? kinda stuck here.

thanks in advance!

There is indeed a bottleneck but it's nothing major and so overclocking is a good idea. Buying a new CPU will simply cost more than just overclocking and yield better results but it will cost you at least $200-300 going with an Intel CPU and a compatible motherboard. Since you already own a AM3+ motherboard then you could also just upgrade the CPU to a FX-8320 which will be cheaper but currently, the Intel wins in most games. So my advice to you is 1) overclock, or 2) upgrade to Intel, or 3) If you don't run into problems with your system in terms of FPS, don't do anything.

What PSU do you have? 530W is plenty for a single GPU and CPU system, your system despite being AMD draws less than 450W guaranteed, so you have a small headroom if...

Though I don't recommend this because you will be cutting it really close. Another problem is whether or not your PSU is suited for overclocking.
