I've never been good with computers but I love PC gaming. But I've always had trouble with my computer when it comes to under performing. I'll use WoW as an example. I have friend that uses a 660 nvidia GPU who also happens to build custom PCs and do other computer related activities for a living. I have a nvidia 760 and an i7 intel CPU. He can run WoW up to 130 fps with Vsync off. I turn my Vsync off and get about 96 fps tops plus very frequent dips to around 70 fps and we both have our WoW settlings on high. (and yes I'm aware that being in a populated area in an mmo, especially with particles flying everywhere can drastically lower fps, but this wasn't the case.) Normally I wouldn't call this a problem, but I want what I paid for. Plus, with the witcher 3 coming out (and other high end graphics games) I can't have my 760 under performing a card that's lower end then mine when I don't even meet the recommended specs for the upcoming games as it is. I don't overclock because I'm not looking for stunning, amazing graphics and I don't want to put stress on my card or cpu, I'm just looking for decent graphics and decent fps, which, as far as i know, which is not much, is what I paid for. Can anyone help me? I can post the rest of my rig if needed.

I only have a 4.0 GHz i7 at the moment.

That's likely the main difference. WoW often gets CPU bound, and having a higher OC will give your friend an advantage.

I've had issues with other games as well though. Let's take DayZ for example. The stand alone game, not the Arma mod. (and yes I'm aware it's an unfinished piece of crap.) I've seen people with my exact GPU run it on ultra with 60 fps, while I get about 20 fps max on the lowest possible settings. Is that a CPU heavy game as well?

I downloaded the Demo off Steam and did the basic FireStrike test. It looked choppy as hell. During the combined test I was pretty much at 7-14 fps the whole time. Not sure if the demo really answers any questions but...

Here's a pic of the results.

The benchmark is not meant to be a game. It is meant to push your system to the absolute limit and compare it to others. A link to the results would be better. They have a page that tells you if your system is working as it should or not.

Here is another system with a 760, a little bit OC'ed, with only a slightly higher score (lower total score). http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2275405

You are fine.

Try disabling ssao. It really crippled my gfs 290x. She also has a 4970k at stock with 16gb ddr3 1600 no oc yet. With auto setting ultra she was getting stuttering and frequent drops from 100+ fps to low 40s, massive dips. So I took a bit of time to change each setting and it was ssao that made the difference. Now she gets 90+ fps constantly and 60-70 in flex raids (12-17 ppl usually.) Ssao shadows and lighting can have noticable fps drops. You could ask your friend for help bc they could have used the high auto setting then changed some things manually and it would still say high. Personally I go for max fps idgaf what the game looks like it's been the same for years. I still use a x5460 and xfire 6870s only setting I have maxed is draw distance (/console farclip xx)
