my laptop is connected to a wireless network but wont browse unless i connect the router cable to it

Solution
That is likely to be the settings on the wireless connection. Check to see if it has an assigned IP address or DNS server and switch it to automatic if it does. How you get there is dependent on what OS you are running, windows vista/7/8 are found under network and sharing center and then "change adapter settings" in XP it is under network connections. Another thing to try is to go to device manager, removed the wireless driver(but don't check the removed driver bit) and then check for hardware changes, should reload the driver from the cache and the you go.

my laptop needed a different solution. here goes:
it seems that i accidentally lost the laptop's drivers to wireless internet (i guess my siblingsr had deleted the wrong files) so i just went to my computer's official page and downloaded the 2 driver that were responsible for internet and wifi.
i run their setups and after the restart everything went back to normal.
to check if there is indeed a drivers problem, u can go to driver manager.
then click "network adapters"
undereath that, should be 2 or more devices that are related to your internet.
if they have a grey line around them, you do not need to download drivers, just press "enable".
if there are yellow triangles with a question mark near them, or sth like that, then you have a drivers problem.
download driver from your laptop's company official site (such as Acer) and run their setups. if that doesnt work, rerun the setups, and click "repair" this time.
hope this has been helpful
