My MB is an ASRock Extreme 4 and I do have the 19-Pin USB 3.0 connector. The two readers I have been looking at are the Akasa Interconnect EX which is a 5.25", and the AFT XM-37U. The Akasa 3.5" reader is an option also. I'm not set on these two manufacturers but it's a starting point.

I'm not set on both but I do like the fact the AFT has the pins set back inside more to allow for the card to align better before contacting the pins.

I have USB 3.0 ports on the MB but I"m after a faster reader than my 2.0 for the amount of pics I transfer from my cameras.

All thoughts welcome.

I went with the top one, mainly because it's a 5.25" drive...all seem to be similar, both Akasa models support the same amount of cards. Once I get it up and running I will report back....thanks.

Here you go:

Buy whichever is cheapest, since both are obviously the same albeit from different brands. This has the added advantage of an eSata port. Keep in mind you will need a free sata port, a usb 2 motherboard header and a usb 3 motherboard header. Also keep in mind that almost all internal card readers operate at USB 2.0, it is just the USB 3.0 ports that operate at USB 3.0 :). For true USB 3.0 transfer speeds from cards, you will need something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Memory-Card-Reader-FCR-HS3/dp/B005ES0YYA/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1430420763&sr=1-3&keywords=card+reader+usb+3.0

Hooked up to a USB 3.0 port. If you don't have any free USB 3.0 ports, you can get something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Express-Connector-Desktops-Chipset/dp/B005ARQV6U/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1430420855&sr=1-5&keywords=usb+3.0

For PCIE x1, or this:

http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Front-Panel-Connector-Adapter/dp/B00J4EZE4U/ref=sr_1_14?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1430420855&sr=1-14&keywords=usb+3.0

for a 5.25" drive bay.

That was a concern to me also and from how I understand the Akasa reader, the smart card is 2.0, and the other 5 card slots are all 3.0.

That's good info though.
