After moving my computer recently my dual monitor setup started moving all windows and my task bar to my primary monitor whenever my computer goes to sleep/shuts down/my monitors turn off after inactivity.

I just discovered that when my displays turn off my computer makes the sound as if something is being disconnected, then about a second later the connection sound is made. This leads me to believe my secondary monitor is being disconnected for about a second whenever my displays turn off which would cause the symptom I am having.

The primary monitor is connected via a Dual link DVI-D cable, while the secondary is connected via a single link DVI-D cable. If anyone knows how I can prevent my secondary monitor for temporarily disconnecting whenever its display is turned off it would be very appreciated. This minor inconvenience is getting extremely frustrating to deal with multiple times a day.

Edit: Both monitors are running in native resolution, 1920x1080 on the primary and 1680x1050 on the secondary. My GPU in a GTX 970 and the drivers are up to date.

I can't help you with your problem because I'm having *exactly* the same problem - two monitors running in 2560 x 1440 - GTX 970. It's a new machine, but it has the same effect. Really annoying as one of my main work apps has multiple (about 20) windows on both screens that you need to position yourself, and they *all* automatically move over to the screen that remains on if you switch the other off.

So please consider this a bump for your question!

Update: I've found someone with a similar problem, except they have one monitor hooked up with DVI and one with DisplayPort. Moving both monitors to DVI worked for them. This might be my issue as I have one with DisplayPort and one with DVI. The only problem for me is that the GTX 970 I...

I'm actually running both of my monitors on DVI. I'm currently using a work around solution. I noticed that the change only happened when my monitors went into power saving mode, not when my computer goes to sleep or shuts down. To work around it I disabled my monitors from going into power saving mode and switched the sleep timer to a half hour. Not a perfect solution but much less obnoxious than all my windows being moved to one monitor whenever I leave my computer unattended.
