Hey guys just a quick question here.So I am gonna be building a new PC , I am thinking of using Gigabyte B85m-D3H for the mother board and i5 4590 for the processor.Since this motherboard doesn't support the processor out of box and need a bios update.I want someone to clarify that This method over here works, that I will not need a haswell CPU for bios update.

Solution
A quick glance at the CPU support list for this motherboard reveals that all CPUs require a F12 BIOS update, and that applies to both Haswell and Haswell-R. What I grasp from this is that the board must support the CPU from stock, since it otherwise won't support even the Haswell CPUs (as both require the same F12 BIOS).

Other than that, I would be very careful not to get an old model.
I haven't tried that method, but you may not need the update in first place. It has been quite some time since the Haswell-R released, and unless you get a really old piece off the shelf, the board should support the CPU from factory, ie, it will have the updated BIOS.

That said, if your board doesn't support the CPU out of the box, I can't assure that the mentioned method will work or not.
