Good Morning,

First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any help you may provide. I purchased a Sager NP6110 a few years ago as a portable gaming laptop. It served me well for the first few months of owning it. I installed things like throttlestop to try and push it to the limit, and I enjoyed it. I had to go away for police academy for a few months, and was not allowed to have it in the dorms, so I let a family member borrow it because she needed something portable. After about a year, I got restless and wanted my laptop back and when it was returned to me the second I booted up a game it would completely turn off. There was no BSOD, no driver failure, nothing. I have since fiddled around with throttlestop, basically turning it off, but I still have the same problem with gaming on the laptop. I'm not sure what to do, and I'm desperate for some advice.

GPU/CPU:
nVidia GT 650m 2GB DDR3 with Optimus switchable graphics
Intel Ivy Bridge i7-3610QM quad core mobile CPU

It tends to run a bit on the hotter side, but I guess that's what you get when you put so many heat producing items in such a small case.

I am thinking of just doing a clean install of Windows 8 to the machine, and making sure everything is at its shipped specs, do you think that would help? Its 0919 hrs right now on 5/1/15, please forgive if you need information and I do not reply in a timely fashion, as I am getting ready for work.

Thanks again.

It sounds like there is a lot of dust inside your laptop. One way that you could help reduce the heat is reducing the cpu usage limit for you laptop. This should help reduce the heat.

Another thing you can do is actually clean the laptop of the dust. Depending on your skill, you can try this out. Just make sure that all data is backed up before you do this.

The last thing I can think of is to use less intense software. Also don't game on this as this will further damage your laptop.

Did that, just booted up and tried just cause 2 benchmark. Turned off at like 1 min in.

These are high temps - It appears that the laptop was in use under dusty conditions and there is a film of dust everywhere inside the laptop. Conventional blowing off using compressed air may not be adequate to get rid of this dust film. Careful wiping of the cooling fins will help, but I am reluctant to advise doing this because of the skill required.
