Hi, I'm ready to start gaming on the best platform; the pc! I'm looking for help with everything I need to get started. Budget around $1500 but would go to $2000 for significant increase in performance. I will be gaming from couch to tv (currently at 1080p but getting 4k tv). So I don't really need a monitor but will appreciate suggestions anyway. I'd like to run fully modded skyrim with little to no lag and the witcher 3 on ultra settings. Future proof would be nice but not critical so long as it can play most current games at medium/high/ultra settings. Also, not sure if it matters but I love my ps4 controller and heard I could use it for most games. I'm not a fan the Xbox controller. Thank you all in advance for taking the time to help a soon to be pc gamer!

i7 4790k
16gb ram
superflower/evga g2 psu.... these are the best
a gtx 980, windforce g1 or evga, both are superb
also a decent hard drive, im aware ssd drives dont really help with fps in games but some games such as battlefield run so much better with an ssd drive.
trust me get an ssd for this game ( faster loading= the faster your graphics card with be able to push the fps,

have fun, enjoy, :)

Thanks for the help! This site has been a great help with my research but I need hands on experience for it to sink in. There are just so many different parts that seem very similar in performance but have completely different pricing.
Is this a good first build? Looking to buy asap!
Any suggestions on parts I may be spending too much on that have the same performance; is there better versions coming out that I should wait for? I will only be using for gaming. Thanks guys!

Thanks TheLonelyShrub, I was considering using two 970's instead of one 980. I'm very noob and don't want to be overwhelmed though, is it a major difference? I also just found a G.Skill Ripjaws X series 16GB (2x8) DDR3-2133 for $112.99. Would that be better than DDR3-1600 for gaming? Sorry for all the rookie questions but thanks for your help.

yes the G.Skill Ripjaws X series 16GB (2x8) DDR3-2133 would be better, and SLI 970's smashes a single 980 no question about it.

Thank you very much for your help! I just finished buying everything for my build. It's already paying off since I received a free download of the Witcher 3 with purchase. Looking forward to gaming on my new pc!
