Hardware:
Router/Modem Combo (Motorolla SURFboard® SBG6782), as DHCP server
Router (NetGear wndr3700 running dd wrt)

Want:
Netgear to run two WiFi Access points
(primary) One WiFi network should be able to access all other computers on the (wired) network
(guest) One WiFi network should just have internet access

Some Background:
The Router/Modem combo's wifi is not as good as the NetGears, and it seems like it gets overheated and crashes when it is used as an wireless access point.
I have tried to set up different bridges for the two different wireless networks but get tripped up on giving the guest network internet access.

Thanks for your help!

Not easy to do what you want when the main router is not running the guest network.

To do this would need the ability to run vlans so in effect you would put the guest network on the main router and it could restrict it.

If you were to run router behind a router then you could use the guest wireless feature on the netgear. Problem with this design is the netgear thinks the network between the motorolla and the netgear is the internet. So the guest machines would be able to access anything that was plugged into the motorolla. Router behind router is not recommended because of the issues of have 2 NAT in the path so port mapping type stuff is a lot more work.

If you don't actually need the motoralla for anything you should be able to configure it to run as a modem only and then you would only have the single router and the guest would work as you want with a very simple config.

I'll try doing this later today. Not many resources on this paticular modem/router model mostly people just saying don't use it lol. It's the one my ISP gave me so I'm just dealing with it. Would I just disable wireless and DHCP and that should be good enough or do I have to do more to disable it as a router?
