Ok so i have this old pc and i thought i'd mount in on a piece of wood. I tested it before destroyed it and it was running like a charm. I screwed the mobo and connected everything else just to ckeck if the pc was running and this happens every time i try to do so again. It starts , led on , bleeps , runs for 5 or so seconds and then shuts down . I removed and replaced the battery , but nothing. All cables are in . Did i destroy the mobo , or is there everything i could try to see if i can fix it

Solution
Well, I am beginning to think something happened to the motherboard between the time you first tested it, and when it later did not work.

The shut down after running for 5 seconds or so, leads me to believe that it is one of 3 things:

1) Damaged motherboard
2) CPU or GPU over heating
3) Bad power or damaged connector on the motherboard (4 pin connector broken?)

Its going to be almost impossible for us to diagnose this any further. That 4 pin connector on the motherboard provides power to the PCI slots.

If you have a card in one of the slots when the 4 pin is not attached, it may not be firmly seated in its slot, or it might now be damaged. When you plug in the 4 pin connector, all at once it has power and does something at is...
Disconnect everything that does not have to be attached to boot, and then power up.

If it does not boot, then you know it or something still attached to it is bad, or the motherboard itself is bad.

If it boots, then you know the motherboard is still good.

Now power down, and attach 1 more thing. Power back up.
If it boots, repeat the previous step.
When it stops booting, then you have probably discovered what is preventing your system from booting.

Ok i removed everything but it still didn't work , then i disconnected the 4-pin connector and it worked what should i do now ?

That sounds like your power supply might be sending the wrong voltages to the motherboard. This tends to happen with very cheaply made power supplies, but it can happen with some better made ones at times too.

I would suggest ordering a good power supply.

I tried with a different power supply , but it does the exact same thing :/ i doubt that is the issue since it worked just fine before disassembling.Anything else i could try ?

Or maybe there is a loose screw shorting something out.

Double check all of your power cables, even the big 24 pin one to the motherboard. Make sure they are firmly inserted into their connectors.

One more crazy thought came to mind... You said you mounted this system on a piece of wood. If the wood is still not dry inside, it could be acting as a conductor. Creating a short. Try removing it from the wood, putting it on a piece of cardboard, or a newspaper, something that will not conduct electricity, and then see if it will work.
