Hello Everyone. First time poster, long time reader here.

I finally made the plunge and upgraded my last RIG with the Asus Maximus Formula 7 based on some great reviews. i also bought the 4970K, 32Gig of Trident X 2400, Antec HP1000 Watt, to plug into my existing 1 Gig EVO 950, and trusty AMD 5970.

So - I deleted the SSD partitions, and Installed a fresh version of Windows, but noticed that Everytime the computer booted up, It would say New CPU Installed, and would load generic BIOS settings initially - Mainly for the RAM which it changes to 1333 Mhz and changed the latency settings. then when I go into BIOS I can see that my OLD BIOS settings are still set. If I click save and restart - same thing happens Every Single load. If I click cancel and exit, then windows boots up.

I have ruled out the Battery low - it is brand new, and the fact that it is remembering the BIOS setting, but somehow forgetting the CPU is there.

At the top of the screen where it posts, I can see that it has correctly identified my 4970K, but still wants me to go into the setup... Somehow it is not remembering what the CPU is

I have tried resetting CMOS, and I get a different message - which says please set BIOS settings in Setup. Then next load, it changes back to New CPU Installed - and I am forced to boot up going through BIOS, and other things in windows seem slow

There are no bent CPU pins, the fan is the stock fan, temp is around 40 degrees

Anyone have any ideas

I now have BIOS 2601 installed - exactly the same issue,

It must not be software,

It must be a hardware problem, but what ? Other users have had the exact same issue with this motherboard

Thanks, well I have e-mailed the Asus help line..... This will end up costing me more than the cost of buying another one to ship it back to Newegg, if that's what they ask me to do.

The motherboard displays the code 99 when it is physically on the post screen, and the message is displayed. Forget windows.

I've had a look in the ROG asus forums, and it looks pretty clear that this is not a unique problem, and has happened to several people over the last month.

I never though I would throw a brand new motherboard in the rubbish, but it looks like my only option. as shipping twice internationally to get it fixed is going to cost more than a new motherboard is worth.

Does anyone have any suggestions that are not Asus, and that come with international warranty>?

For the sake of the other guys with an asus board, with this problem ( which I can see on google still has no clear solution - with the issue up to 3 years old )

When i say I have exausted every single option, I mean in the end the motherboard is sitting on the box with 1 VGA card, 1 stick of ram attached, the keyboard and CPU and that's it.

Updated BIOS to latest, cleared CMOS, Replaced PSU to old PSU , replaced RAM to old RAM, disconnected all HDD drives and DVD rom, Reseated CPU 10 times, re-applied thermal paste, took armour off, replaced Battery with old battery , Tried inside case, tried unmounted sitting on desk.

100% of boots in 100% of cases either said enter bios to save settings, or on the followind boots, New CPU installed, press F1 to enter setup.

This almost seems like it could not have possibly been quality tested in the factory.

If I fork out for another one of these from the same vendor, and I get the same problem, like others have had.... in March and April this year..... then what do I do?
